Allow Native Hawaiians to run playing casinos
Illegal playing as soon as once more leads to dying and disruption (“Man arrested in slaying at illegal game room in Kapiolani area,” Star-Advertiser, May 20). Where do these machines come from? And even when the police confiscate them, what might be finished with them?
Why do these playing websites hold proliferating? They should be worthwhile.
Since there’s revenue from playing, why not work it out with Native Hawaiians for a authorized on line casino?
If Native Hawaiians don’t need this, then the state ought to have a on line casino, with the earnings devoted to the rail system. We know the rail shall be operating at a deficit and sucking up our tax {dollars} eternally. A well-run authorized on line casino would profit taxpayers.

More humane to cull deer than starve them
The state issued an emergency proclamation whereas we’re already in a drought (“Gov. David Ige signs emergency proclamation to help Maui deal with rocketing axis deer count,” Star-Advertiser, March 25).
Still, giant numbers of deer should not being faraway from the wild inhabitants. Deer will proceed to die by hunger. This problem ought to be seen like a raging wildfire that’s coming quick.
The impacts to habitat and property don’t provoke pressing motion. Experts on the PBS Hawaii “Insights” program stated options will take time.
So allow us to deal with who we’re and our humanity. It is prohibited to starve our pet canine, however are we OK with ravenous Bambi? Aerial looking by professionals can be extra humane than ravenous sport animals. It could also be wanted anyway, to assist management brucellosis.
This is a symptom of a system that’s unable to handle invasive mammals and birds. What about feral pigs, goats and chickens?

The overwhelming majority of park customers won’t ever use this $17 million bridge on the location it’s being constructed. How will it assist visitors movement when automobiles and pedestrians utilizing the park will nonetheless want to make use of signalized intersections?
