Irish pair Andrew Omobamidele and Adam Idah handed rare Premier League starts at Norwich City lose at Spurs

Andrew Omobamidele and Adam Idah started together for the first time in the Premier League as Norwich City fell to a 3-0 defeat away to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Ireland internationals were recalled to the Canaries’ starting line-up by manager Dean Smith following Tuesday night’s 1-1 draw with fellow strugglers Newcastle United.

Lucan native Omobamidele returned to the starting XI after sitting out the last three games following Daniel Farke’s sacking, while Idah was handed his first league start of the season.

Matt Doherty got half an hour off the bench for Spurs as he featured for the first time in the Premier League under new boss Antonio Conte.

The Canaries remain rooted to the bottom of the table following Newcastle’s win over Burnley as Smith tasted defeat for the first time since taking the reins last month.

Lucas Moura fired Spurs ahead inside ten minutes and Idah missed a golden chance to draw Norwich level before goals from Davinson Sanchez and Son Heung-Min settled the tie.

“He did well, he got caught offside a couple of times, probably running a bit too early, he hasn’t had a lot of game time, but the boy is game,” Smith said of Idah.

“You could see that, he competed really well, at times he made it stick. He will get better with games, that’s for sure.”
