A hospital employee was stabbed multiple times in the lobby of the facility, California authorities said.
When officers arrived at the Panorama City hospital, they found a 49-year-old man with “multiple stab wounds” on Monday, Sept. 19, according to a news release from the Los Angeles Police Department.
The victim, a nurse at the hospital, had just come into Mission Community Hospital to start his overnight shift when the stranger in black clothing approached him, LAPD investigators told FOX 11 News.
“Somebody came up to him, said something to him, and then stabbed him,” Dr. James Higgins, a cardiologist at the hospital, told CBSLA “Everybody jumped in and took him inside to take care of him.”
The suspect fled after stabbing the man, according to police.
“The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local trauma center hospital, where he is listed in critical but stable condition,” the news release said.
The suspect is still at large, and police asked for anyone with information to call detectives at (818) 838-9830.
Panorama City is about 20 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.
