Bursting out of her dress on holidays made a Dublin mum lose two stone in three months.
Lisa Byrne admits over lockdown she was in ‘holiday mode’ and as the pounds crept on she was in denial.
It was not until her dress strap snapped off on holidays and she was left mortified that she accepted she had to take action.
Lisa, 52, told the Irish Mirror: “When my dress snapped, the mortification of going around asking everyone for a safety pin was horrific.
“It was the realisation of why am I asking for a pin? It’s because you can’t fit in your dress, because you’re after putting on so much weight.
“I didn’t want to buy any clothes that fitted me, it would mean admitting that I was bigger.
“When I look back at that photo, the sadness in that photo.
“I started the menopause during covid building up my denial.
“That’s when I cracked and I realised I had to take action.”
At her largest the former fruit and veg shop owner was 13 stone and once she joined Slimming World she stopped eating crap and shed a pound a day until she was on target.
Putting on the weight happened due to isolation and not working, she adds: “I enjoyed the first lockdown not having anything to do.
“I put on two stone, I was in this covid bubble, the weight went on so gradually.
“I wasn’t being active, I was walking but eating crap just to feel good about myself.
“I was in that isolation thing of the lockdown and boohoo I can eat what I want and it’s not going to affect me.
“I was feeling completely miserable in myself, it was heartbreaking thinking I shouldn’t be like this. I once had a fruit and veg shop for God’s sake.
“I mean the chipper was down the road, it was going on too long and the consequences were the weight was building up.”
Joining Slimming World was the game changer that Lisa needed and loving her journey so much she has since become a Slimming World consultant in Cabinteely.
The mum-of-three added: “After lockdown as soon as the live classes came back I joined.
“This time from day one I took it on board and stopped eating all the high sins food, I’m a chocoholic that’s my weakness.
“I stopped eating chocolate and followed Slimming World 100%, the first week I lost six and a half pounds by eating healthily.
“I lost a pound a day by not eating crap, I was working out and watching my diet.
“You can’t lose the weight from working out alone, you can tone, but by getting back to fresh fruit and veg the weight literally fell off me.”
