Madam Speaker, I rise at the moment with a damaged coronary heart to honor the lives of two of Washington state’s best – Pierce County Sheriff’s Deputy Dom Calata and Everett Police Officer Dan Rocha, each tragically shot and killed within the line of obligation defending and serving the communities they known as house.
For years, these two males placed on their uniform every day, hugged their children and kissed their wives, and went to work to maintain us protected – not realizing if they might ever stroll again by way of that door on the finish of the night time.
Deputy Calata and Officer Rocha made the last word sacrifice, and my coronary heart breaks for his or her grieving households and the households of the opposite 685 officers killed within the line of obligation since 2021.
Madam Speaker, we should do higher. This is America. We can not permit these assaults on our legislation enforcement to proceed. We must FUND the police and provides them the sources they should hold us protected and ensure they make it house protected on the finish of the day.
Look at what’s happening in our nation at the moment: a surge in violent crime, heartbreaking drug abuse, violence in our faculties, homelessness. Law enforcement is combating an uphill battle and so they want our assist. Now greater than ever, we have to allow them to do their jobs if we need to handle these issues.
Sadly, anti-police rhetoric has contaminated the hearts and minds of many on this nation who consider law enforcement officials are the enemy. But they’re not. They are heroes.
Dom Calata was a hero. Dan Rocha was a hero. Each and each selfless man and girl in blue who gave their final breath in service to their group was a hero.
And at the moment their households are with out them. We should always remember their sacrifice and at all times again the blue.
I ask my colleagues to affix me as Americans to acknowledge the fallen and bear in mind them for what they had been – heroes.
My coronary heart goes out to all these grieving this tragic loss, and I pray that God retains watch over all these nonetheless serving.
