Brad Pitt approved Waterford estate with private lake hits market for eye-watering price

A house that is rumoured to have caught the attention of Brad Pitt has gone on sale for a whopping €1.85 million.

Pouldrew House in Co. Waterford’s former owner Alexander Jan said the astonishingly lavish home was bought by his father, Dr Jan Mohamed, when he first moved to Ireland from Singapore to work in University Hospital Waterford.

The home was built in 1814 and has had many well-known visitors over the years, such as Priscilla Presley, who came to the house on many occasions for acupuncture with her daughter Lisa Marie.

The home was of such grandeur that it is believed Pricilla offered to buy the house, and she wasn’t the only one to be blown away by its beauty.

Rumours have also circulated that the home grabbed the attention of Hollywood star Brad Pitt, who offered to buy the home after seeing it while on a visit to Ireland.

Chinese ambassadors and international royalty are known to have frequented Pouldrew House to enjoy occasions with the locals.

Alexander Jan’s father passed away in 2019, and as he now lives abroad, Alexander wishes to sell the home through renowned auctioneers Sotheby’s International.

The three-story home has eight bedrooms, with a separate stable block that has the potential to be converted.

The luxurious home also has a games room and bar and boasts a waterfall that runs a hydroelectric system located on the grounds.

The system provides enough energy to heat the entire home.

The home measuring a total of 342 square metres, stands on the edge of a private lake fed by a tributary of the River Suir.

Pouldrew House was initially put on the market in 2020, but the owner said it was impossible to hold viewings due to the pandemic.

Alexander Jan told The Irish Times: “It’s a house that people have to come and see.”

He added: “One of my friends describes it as a trophy home for someone returning home, someone who has done well.”

Mr Jan said the home was like no other and was well known within the county.

He said: “Dad had a letter from a friend who had forgotten his address. The envelope said ‘Asian Doctor, The Big House on the Lake, Waterford.’ It found us, too.”
